Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez Megafight Results Into a Draw, Will a Rematch Happen?

canelo and GGG

The boxing match between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez resulted in a draw.

And though it ended in such, the anticipated megaboxing match gave fans what they wanted – a legitimate boxing match, absent to the previous one before. According to an article by ESPN, the two great boxers of this generation delivered – and then some.

Indeed, it was called as one of the most exciting matches in recent memory, as both fighters really duked it out inside of the ring. Action-packed and full of surprises, many were left wanting for more. Both went the distance and both endured heavy punches…need we say more?

Since it ended in a draw, will a rematch happen? The rematch is certainly expected and it seems everyone is interested, except for Alvares, Yahoo! Sports reported.

However, Golovkin voiced his intention for a rematch almost immediately and said, “This was the big drama show, of course, I want the rematch. Look I still have all the belts, I’m still the champion.” In the post-fight interview, however, Alvarez turned to the fans for the rematch of the mega fight. He said, “If the fans want to see it again, why not?”

But given Golovkin’s age, would the rematch be as exciting as this first bout? Do take note that Alvarez just entered the very prime age of 27, while Golovkin is about to turn 36.

The thing is, it seems that the younger boxer isn’t that keen on having a rematch – at least not at this time. According to sources, Alvarez has yet to demand a rematch and his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, was also hesitant to commit. The boxer-turned-promoter said that Alvarez would take his time with his team and think of the future match.

Despite the hesitancy of Alvarez for a rematch, given the intensity and result of the fight, a rematch is all but inevitable.
