James Bulger’s Father Wants Killer’s Current Face to be Shown to the World

The father of a murdered two-year-old boy wants killer stripped of his anonymity.

On February 13, 1993, a gruesome murder that shocked the world happened –  the two killers, Jon Venables and Robert Thompson were both 10-years-old  when they shocked Britain. They were branded the youngest murderers in English history. Fast forward to today, one of the murderers is back in jail after a number of child-porn images were found on his computer.

Ralph Bulger, the father of the murdered 2-year-old boy James Bulger, wants the current identity of the murderer, Jon Venables, to be exposed to the world and should be given the life sentence for murdering his toddler 24 years ago. The two killers, Venables and Robert Thompson served prison time until 2001 and were released with new identities.

“Why has Venables still got the privilege of a secret identity?” Bulger asked during an interview with the Sunday People. “He was given anonymity back when he was 10 because the authorities were convinced they could rehabilitate him. We know now that failed and so when Venables reoffended he should not only have been recalled to prison for life but stripped of his hidden identity.”

“What’s really damaging is that when Venables now commits crimes against children, he is a grown 35-year-old man and all we see is a photograph of him as a young boy of 10,” Mr Bulger added. “If people saw a photo of him as the adult monster he truly is, they would have a very different perception of the person committing the crimes.

“There are no valid excuses left to protect his identity. He should be treated no differently to other child killers.”

During a routine police inspection, it was reported that they were able to find a stash of “sickening” child abuse images on Venables’ computer, which was similar to those that were found in 2010 that led to his recall to jail.

“You can’t rewire evil,” Mr Bulger said while saying that the murderer should not be freed again.

“The child abuse offences he has committed over and over as an adult are part of a very frightening build-up to him murdering another child like James,” Mr Bulger told The Sun.

“Let him out again and he will strike again.”

In 2013, Venables was released from prison on parole. Currently, he is at maximum security, but the information was not disclosed due to legal reasons.

Denise Fergus, James’s mother, said: “Venables has proved beyond any doubt what a vile, perverted psychopath he has always been.”

“I predicted Venables would reoffend unless they kept a very tight rein on him and I pray that now, someone from the UK government will finally listen to me.”

The Gruesome Murder  – A Look Back

Venables and Thompson shocked the world after horrific details of their murder of James Bulger on February 12, 1993 were revealed. According to reports, the two killers snatched James from his mother right after she let go of his hand to pay for sausages at a butcher’s in a shopping centre in Bootle, Merseyside.

Afterwards, they took the toddler away from traffic, then to a canal towpath, before performing the brutal scene—beating the 2-year old boy with a 22lb (100kg) iron bar. Venables and Thompson also poured modelling paint into James’ eyes, stoned him, clubbed him with bricks and left the body on a railway track to be run through by a train, slicing the body in two.

After 9 months, Venables and Thompson were found guilty of abducting and murdering the toddler. They were detained in youth custody indefinitely, making them the youngest convicted murderers in Britain for 250 years. But, after spending seven years in undergoing expensive treatment and rehabilitation, the pair was released in 2001.
