In case the movies were too much to watch in one sitting.

Looks like Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, Legolas and the rest of Middle Earth are going to embark on a new adventure—and this time to a smaller screen. After a circulation of rumours regarding a TV series, finally it has been confirmed! Amazon confirmed on Monday that it is going to the Middle Earth and bring the characters to television that have multiple seasons inspired by JRR Tolkien’s classic fantasy novels.

However, this time the series will have new stories that happened before the first movie in the epic trilogy that premiered in 2001, “The Fellowship of the Ring”, directed by Peter Jackson.

Additionally, a report by CNN said that Amazon spilt the massive deal, which included a potential of pursuing a spin-off of the series.

“‘The Lord of the Rings’ is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen,” said Sharon Tal Yguado, head of scripted series for Amazon Studios, as quoted on CNN. “We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking ‘The Lord of the Rings; fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth.”

Meanwhile, a representative for the Tolkien estate and trust and the publisher HarperCollins, Matt Galsor, also commented on the news as quoted on an article of The Guardian: “We are delighted that Amazon, with its longstanding commitment to literature, is the home of the first-ever multi-season television series for The Lord of the Rings.

“Sharon and the team at Amazon Studios have exceptional ideas to bring to the screen previously unexplored stories based on JRR Tolkien’s original writings.”

The “Lord of the Rings” has a total gross of almost $6 billion worldwide and its cast included major names, such as Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Sean Astin and Orlando Bloom.

However, the cast for the TV series is yet to be revealed.
