WNBA Teams Are Playable in NBA Live 18

August 03, 2017

For the first time in basketball simulation history, the Women’s National Basketball Association will be featured and playable in EA Sports’ NBA Live 18 title.

Call it groundbreaking or a unique selling feature but EA Sports has pioneered women’s basketball for this year’s installment. The Live franchise has lost its lofty position as the premiere basketball videogame simulation to NBA 2K with the latter’s superb gameplay, features, realism in graphics as well as a number of innovative online modes that really connect competitive players worldwide.

But with the recent resurgence of the Live franchise as well as the game’s honest improvements, the title is getting buzz and a bit of market share.

Sean O’Brien, NBA Live Executive Producer was excited at the reveal of the WNBA teams for the upcoming Live title.

“We are extremely proud to partner with the WNBA and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) on this groundbreaking occasion,” O’Brien was quoted by Sports Illustrated.

“The WNBA is home to some of the most incredible athletes on the planet, and we’ve been working hard to integrate them into our game in an authentic and meaningful way. This is only a taste of what we have in store, and look forward to working with the league on more great integrations in the franchise in the future.”

Current WNBA President Lisa Borders is also ecstatic about the WNBA in NBA Live 18:

“We are delighted to collaborate and make history with EA as NBA LIVE 18 becomes the first video game to feature the WNBA’s full roster of teams and players,” said WNBA President Lisa Borders. “With EA’s expertise and ingenuity, the game will provide a terrific platform to showcase the players and the league, enabling fans to experience the WNBA in a new, exciting way.”

For EA, this marks the second time where they featured women’s teams in their sports titles following FIFA 16 where it featured the top women’s national teams.

NBA Live 18 will be releasing in consoles Playstations 4 and the Xbox One with reigning MVP Russell Westbrook as the cover athlete.
