Mary Poppins Returns: Teaser Trailer Premiered During 2018 Oscars
The well-loved nanny has landed once again!
The Disney live-action musical is back, but has a different twist from its predecessor—it’s actually a sequel. The movie’s teaser trailer got a magical debut during the Oscars 2018. Even though the trailer did not show any dance moves and singing, fans are still pumped about the movie.
It was during the Oscars commercial break when the trailer was premiered. The movie introduced “Hamilton‘s” Lin-Manuel Miranda as lamplighter Jack and Emily Blunt as the magical nanny. Set to hit theatres this Christmas Day 2018, the magical nanny Mary Poppins is back to help the stricken Banks family find joy in their lives.
However, the sequel now focuses on the next generation Banks family, meaning it now revolves around Michael Banks, played by Ben Whishaw, in his adult years during the Great Depression in London. Banks has three daughters, played by Pixie Davies (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), Nathanael Saleh (Game of Thrones) and Joel Dawson, while Emily Mortimer plays Jane Banks and Julie Walters as the Banks’ housekeeper Ellen.

The movie also has Colin Firth as Fidelity Fiduciary Bank’s William Weatherall Wilkins; and Meryl Streep as Mary’s eccentric cousin, Topsy. Meanwhile, the Balloon Lady, a character from the PL Travers books, will be played by Angela Lansbury, and Dick Van Dyke will play Mr. Dawes Jr., the former chairman of the bank currently managed by Wilkins.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“In the story, Michael (Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins (Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Miranda), uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Streep).”
