Rian Johnson Dispels Rumours of Him Abandoning New Star Wars Trilogy

The director brings fans a new hope.

There were rumours that circulated, saying that director Rian Johnson has stopped the development of his new Star Wars Trilogy.

According to reports, there was an article posted on SuperBroMovies on February 13 — which was already taken down — that stated that “multiple sources” have confirmed Johnson abandoned the development of a Star Wars Trilogy announced way back in November 2017. This announced standalone trilogy is said to focus on an unexplored part of the galaxy.

Quickly, Johnson quickly dispelled the rumours through Twitter, posting: “No it isn’t true, I’m still working on the trilogy. With all due respect to the movie bros, who I’m sure are lovely kind bros with good fraternal intentions,” Johnson tweeted.

Johnson was the director and the writer of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi installment, which is the eighth installment of the film and second in the sequel trilogy. It followed the Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was spearheaded by J.J. Abrams.

In the wake of The Last Jedi‘s release, Johnson received fan outrage for the movie.

“The goal is never to divide or make people upset, but I do think the conversations that are happening were going to have to happen at some point if [Star Wars] is going to grow, move forward, and stay vital,” he said during the backlash.

But he said his vision for the upcoming movies won’t be influenced by the backlash.

“I don’t think it’s possible when, if you’re really telling a story you care about and having it come from your heart, it’s just not possible to be intellectually processing what everyone else wants and nor would it be a good thing, a healthy thing. I don’t think that’s a good way to tell a story,” he said.

“There’s just so much potential and I can’t wait to jump into it. What makes me so excited about it is the idea of doing a new story on the big canvas of three movies in this world.”
